Special Session

on

Operational Research

at

COMPSE 2016

At the occasion of the First EAI International Conference on Computer Science and Engineering (COMPSE) in Penang, Malaysia, at November 11-12, 2016 (https://compse-conf.org/2016/show/home), we invite submissions of papers to a Special Session on Operational Research.

Overview

One of the most emerging fields connecting to Operational Research (OR) is Big Data. The role of OR, including Big Data Handling, is very important, enriches OR’s toolbox of methodologies and contributes to a vast amount of real-world applications, in all fields of science, engineering, economics and social sciences. Those applications are of great importance in many domains, and the insights what new methodologies can provide are straightening OR’s relevance. The fields of Big Data Handling have a direct and natural relation to Statistics and Machine Learning, to Parallel Processing, Databases and Data Mining.

With our Special Session at COMPSE 2016, we aim to foster the collaboration in the intersection between the fields of Big Data Handling and Operational Research and to represent state-of-the-art contributions as going to be presented and discussed at COMPSE 2016. Herewith, the Session Organizers wish to encourage excellent research and interaction in the vibrant fields of modern OR and among them, and to stimulate excellent future science hosted and fostered by our international OR family.

Topics

Main Areas of OR are (following the respected and celebrated EURO Conferences) are: Analytics, Data Science and Data Mining; Artificial Intelligence, Fuzzy Systems and Computing; Continuous Optimization; Control Theory and System Dynamics; Decision Analysis, Decision Support Systems, DEA and Performance Measurement; Discrete Optimization, Mixed Integer Linear and Nonlinear Programming; Emerging Applications of OR; Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate; Financial Modeling, Risk Management and Managerial Accounting; Game Theory and Mathematical Economics; Graphs and Networks; Metaheuristics, Multiple-Criteria Decision Making and Optimization; OR History and OR Ethics; OR Education; OR for Developing Countries and Humanitarian Applications; OR in Health, Life Sciences and Sports; OR in Industry and Software for OR; Practice of OR; Production Management and Supply Chain Management; Revenue Management; Routing, Location, Logistics and Transportation; Scheduling, Timetabling and Project Management; Simulation, Stochastic and Robust Optimization; Soft OR, Problem Structuring Methods and Behavioral OR.

Digging and mining information at large data, soft-computing techniques and the classical, yet continuously refined mathematical methods have contributed scientific and computational power to prediction, analysis and decision making in Computer Science, Engineering, Management, Social Computing, Environmental Protection, Sustainable Development, Aviation, Finance, Tele-Communication, etc. OR is more and more regarded as a Key Technology in order to support this process and to catalyze collaboration and future progress in Research and Progress for our modern industries and societies and the perspectives of our people.
