for

Special Session BDO-COMPSE 2016-Malaysia

Big Data Optimization Algorithms, Techniques, Theory and its application to real world problems.

Brief description of area of coverage:

The age of "big data" is here: data of unprecedented sizes is becoming ubiquitous, which brings new challenges and new opportunities. In the big data era, we are dealing with the explosive increase of global data and enormous datasets. Unlike seemingly similar terms such as “massive data” or “very big data,” big data refers to the datasets that could not be perceived, acquired, managed, and processed by traditional Information Technology (IT) and software/hardware tools within a tolerable time. Classical algorithms are not designed to scale to instances of this size and hence new approaches are needed. These approaches utilize novel algorithmic design involving tools such as distributed and parallel computing, randomization, asynchronicity, decomposition, sketching and streaming. This session aims to bring together researchers working on novel optimization algorithms and codes capable of working in the Big Data setting.
